Welcome to the latest edition of the World of DaaS Roundup.
The countdown begins and we are more than ready! 21 days until the World of DaaS Summit 2026 and the room is almost full.
This week, the data industry proved exactly why this conversation matters: courts put new limits on AI-generated text, Europe's biggest tech firms are winning the AI race by owning the data integration layer, and Palantir called its data platform sales "otherworldly."

📰 News & Reads
The AI boom was supposed to favor the model makers. Instead, Europe’s established data integrators are winning, SAP Capgemini and Publicis are all raising their outlooks.
The challenge isn't getting access to AI it's making it work with the software, data, and business processes companies already have. The firms winning are the ones that have spent decades doing exactly that.
A federal court just ruled that delivery apps don’t have to share customer data with restaurants, and the implications go far beyond food delivery.
NYC's law requiring platforms like DoorDash and Uber Eats to hand over customer order histories to restaurants was struck down as unconstitutional. The question it answers, who owns the customer record generated on a platform, has consequences for every marketplace business sitting between buyers and sellers.
Anthropic is watermarking every word Claude writes to comply with the EU AI Act’s new data provenance rules.
As of August 2, the EU AI Act requires AI-generated text to be machine-readable and traceable. Anthropic has embedded invisible watermarks into all Claude outputs — durable enough to survive copy-paste, but broken by paraphrasing. Data provenance just became a legal obligation, not a best practice.
Palantir just raised its full-year outlook and CEO Alex Karp called the company’s data and AI platform sales “otherworldly”
Annual guidance raised to $4.89B–$4.91B in adjusted income from operations. The data analytics company built on selling AI-powered insights is proving that proprietary data platforms at scale generate returns no one predicted.
🎙️ DaaS Podcast Spotlight
Building Proprietary Intelligence Systems in an AI-Driven World — with Evan Reich, Chief Product Officer & Head of AI, BWG Global. GydeBites, July 2026.
→ Evan Reich has spent 25+ years leading data strategy and product innovation in financial services from data sourcing and engineering to alternative data and investment intelligence. His central argument: as the gap between AI models shrinks, the real competitive advantage shifts entirely to the data underneath them. Proprietary intelligence is the combination of data, context, and reasoning. Not everyone has the domain knowledge to build that. Most organizations think they do.
In this episode, they discuss:
Why proprietary data, not better models, is becoming the foundation of lasting competitive advantage in enterprise AI.
The essential building blocks of a proprietary intelligence system: knowledge graphs, reasoning layers, and governance.
How to move from having data to actually generating intelligence from it.
The most common mistakes organizations make when building AI on top of their data.
Why keeping a proprietary intelligence system accurate and competitive as AI evolves is harder than building it.
An Unexpected Data Read For Today.
Scientists just released the largest 2D map of the universe ever created: 5.6 trillion pixels, nearly 4 billion cosmic objects, and 13 years of data processing.
The DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys team combined more than 263,000 telescope exposures to produce a dataset so large it's already been referenced in 1,800+ scientific papers and it's now being used to train AI systems to analyze the next generation of astronomical data.
The biggest data challenge in the world isn't enterprise. It's the universe itself.
Where Data Meets Art
In Linz, Austria, one of the world's most respected digital art institutions is asking a question most data companies never stop to ask: what does data mean?
Ars Electronica's Futurelab, in collaboration with Toyota Coniq, runs an ongoing "Data Art & Science" project that brings together artists and data scientists to build installations that turn raw data into human experience. One piece visualizes ocean satellite data as sound. Another translates fluctuating environmental measurements into live painting. A third makes the invisible architecture of a semiconductor, 23 nanometers wide, perceptible to the human eye.
The premise: data science tells us what the data says. Art tells us why it matters.
